| INTRODUCCIÓN PlayStation™ fue la primera videoconsola de sobremesa desarrollada por Sony, creada a mediados de los años 90. Dicha consola es pionera en el empleo del CD-ROM como soporte de almacenamiento para sus juegos, prescindiendo de los cartuchos convencionales que manejaba Nintendo y Sega. PlayStation se considera la videoconsola más exitosa de la quinta generación tanto en ventas y popularidad. Tuvo gran éxito en emplear el CD-ROM dentro de su hardware, a pesar de que otras compañías ya lo habían empleado, tales como: SEGA (Sega CD), Panasonic (3DO), Phillips (CD-i) y Snk (Neo Geo CD). Dichas compañías tuvieron poco éxito al emplear el CD-ROM como soporte para almacenar juegos. Se estima que en todo el mundo Sony logró vender 102,5 millones de unidades de su videoconsola. La consola fue concebida después de la ruptura del acuerdo de Sony con Nintendo. El acuerdo consistía en que Sony desarrollaría el CD-ROM para la nueva SNES PlayStation (Snes CD Rom) de Nintendo, con el cual se pretendía dotar de mayores capacidades multimedia a la nueva consola de Nintendo, de la misma forma que Sony colaboró anteriormente en el desarrollo de SNES, fabricando su chip de sonido, que permitía 8 canales simultáneos con calidad PCM, quedando muy por encima de la competencia.  Protototipo original de la PlayStation, una SNES con unidad de CD-ROM. Sin embargo, Nintendo también encargo ese proyecto a Philips, lo que provocó que, al descubrir Sony el juego a dos bandas de Nintendo, empezara a fabricar juegos para la competencia (como Hook para Sega Mega-CD). Ésto y el poco éxito de las consolas que en aquel momento incorporaron el CD, provocó que Nintendo cancelara el proyecto. A Sony no le pareció acertada la determinación de Nintendo y, gracias a la experiencia adquirida, lanzó por su cuenta su propia consola, la Playstation. La PlayStation fue lanzada a la venta el 3 de diciembre de 1994 en Japón y el 26 de septiembre de 1995 en USA. |
| MODELOS PlayStation  Original de color gris, comprendía, en un aparato de tamaño relativamente amplio y diseño rectangular, puertos para 2 mandos de control, 2 tarjetas de memoria, un puerto serie, un puerto paralelo, salida A/V analógica y minijack para modulador de radio frecuencia. También conocida como PSX. Debido al nombre del prototipo realizado para Nintendo, llamado PlayStation X es fácilmente confundida con la PSX (No confundir con el sistema multimedia PSX que más tarde publicaría Sony en Japón). PlayStation Video CD  En 1997, Sony lanzó el modelo SCPH-5903 de la consola, que incluía capacidad para reproducir discos en formato VideoCD 2.0 (VCD). Este modelo solamente fue distribuido brevemente en Asia. PlayStation Net Yaroze (DLT-H300x)  Más cara que la original y de color negro en vez del usual gris, venía con herramientas e instrucciones que permitían al usuario programar juegos y aplicaciones para PlayStation sin necesidad de un kit de desarrollo completo, el cual puede llegar a costar varias veces el precio de la propia consola, además de necesitar permiso de Sony. PSOne  La PlayStation, al ser un gran éxito la consola, Sony decide darle más tiempo de vida a su producto PlayStation y lanza a la venta una versión más económica y reduciendo el tamaño del equipo, es algo similar que hizo Nintendo con el NES y SNES lanzando versiones económicas y reduciendo el tamaño de la consola. Fue lanzada a la venta en el año 2000 (junto a su sucesora, la PlayStation 2). La PSOne presenta menores dimensiones y peso, posee los mismos botones (excepto el botón Reset), puertos para tarjetas de memoria y botones de acción en los mandos de control, pero ya no cuenta con el puerto serie ni paralelo de la original. Además, la fuente de alimentación pasa a ser externa, para reducir aún más el tamaño de la consola. |
| ACCESORIOS Y PERIFÉRICOS Mando Original  En un principio la PlayStation no contaba con un mando analógico ya que existían muy pocos juegos en 3D. Mando Analógico (Dual Shock):  Tras la aparición en el mercado de Nintendo 64 y su mando con joystick central, Sony desarrolló un mando analógico para los juegos en 3D. Se fabricó de un mayor tamaño que el original, fue equipado con dos pads analógicos uno para el movimiento y el otro para observar el entorno del juego, además de la función de vibración en su siguiente versión conocido como DualShock. Memory Card:  Creada con el fin de poder almacenar las partidas de diversos juegos, ya que los juegos eran muy largos y tomaban largas horas completarlos. La Memory Card fue fundamental para los jugadores. Además esta solo contaba con un espacio limitado pero según fue pasando el tiempo lanzaron más versiones y estas podián almacenar más partidas que en las anteriores. |

PSOne Classics de oferta en la PSN Store de Norte América PS One cumplió ayer, 9 de septiembre, quince años en el mercado Norteamericano. Aparte de anunciarlo, Sony Computer Entertainment America ha lanzado una promoción en la PlayStation Store para celebrarlo, rebajando el precio de los juegos de PS One temporalmente. La compañía ha abierto una sección especial llamada PlayStation 15th anniversary collection, donde semanalmente rebajará el precio de algunos títulos de la consola, hasta una fecha todavía por determinar. Los usuarios también pueden hacerse con un adorno de PS One gratuitamente para su espacio en PlayStation Home. Por el momento no se sabe si esta promoción para Norteamérica se llevará a cabo también en Europa, donde la primera consola PlayStation cumple quince años el próximo 29 de septiembre.  |
